Is $200 / hour too much for a Russian - to - English interpreter in Poltava, Ukraine?
I will be in Poltava the first two weeks of June 2012, and I was just wondering what is considered to be a normal rate for an interpreter?
I have read others here at this site tell me that interpreters charge a minimum of $50 / hour, and $200 to $500 per hour is more normal. Heck, in my job I only earn $20 / hour, and that's in Canada, so what would be considered a 'NORMAL' charge per hour for an interpreter in Poltava?
The lady I am traveling to visit tells me that her interpreter charges $25 / hour and that that is a 'BARGAIN' rate as she puts it. What do you think of that?
Lets see here, $25 / hour times 6 hours a day, times 10 days of meetings = $1,500 USD for a week and a half of meetings..... Does anyone here think that this is an AVERAGE salary for a Ukrainian interpreter, or am I paying too much?
What is your opinion, what should I pay for interpretation rates?
Fr Allan . Need to negotiate price. I there are guys who pay 10, 15, 20 , 25 hr .. but in reality its not worth it.
most conversation is causal... unless its business conversation. in Kiev I had a universioty student charges $8hr.
25 is way to much.. unless U want to spoil the girl. I get gray hairs when they want $15, or 10. I will be in Poltava in September
working on $7 hr, guatrentee min of 72 to max of 150. What are ur dates of travel. write ap6797@yahoo.com if U need more info.
Allan
10$/hour is more then good fee for a student. Pay no more, $50 is a scam, $200- professional scam.
Avarage salary in Ukraine is 2$/hour and 5$/hour is really good salary, especially in Poltava.
If you have any question about Poltava or ukrainian common practice, prices, accomodation to rent, etc., or just want to have a beer with amicable local inhabitant ( age 33, engineer)- I can explain you anything in privat conversation. And the only price I ask you to pay - is heart-to-heart talk, because I want to improve my english-language skills.

I've just been informed that a 'normal' charge from an agency is around 15 euro per hour. That's about $18 USD per hour, or around $20 / hr if you round it up. So that's okay with me, I'll go with $20 per hour and be happy. I only want to be fair to everyone, nice and normal. (smile).
Roy, 'normal' charge from an agency include 60% for agency and 40% for translator. Especially if translator is providet by dating agency. Normal charge is no more than $10/hr
For orders 5 hours per day and over, the cost of one hour is US $7 in an travel agency , and not an dating agency. But it is your right to spend money in a way you prefer.
I need a reliable translator. I only speak a little Russian. I will be visiting Poltava in September for two days.
Good morning, Sir! My name is Alex. I'm ready to help you. My contact information is e-mail: mslava2009@ukr.net
